Tell Apple: No to Trump’s “Lake America”

Apple just changed Lake Ontario to "Lake America" for U.S. users of Apple Maps — just because Donald Trump told it to.

Lake Ontario is one of the Great Lakes, shared by communities across the U.S.-Canada border, with a name rooted in Indigenous language and history. But after Trump issued an order trying to rename it, Apple followed Google and updated its map for U.S. users.

Millions of people rely on Apple Maps for accurate information every day. When a company as powerful as Apple rewrites geography to satisfy Trump’s political stunt, it helps normalize government propaganda in tools people trust.

Tell Apple: Restore Lake Ontario’s real name in Apple Maps and stop changing maps to serve Donald Trump’s political agenda. Sign our petition today and we'll deliver your signature to key decision makers at Apple.

Trump cannot force Canada or the rest of the world to accept his fake name. Canadian leaders have already rejected the change, and other map providers like Mapquest have refused to follow along. Apple can make the same choice. It can stand for accuracy, history, and public trust — or it can keep helping Trump turn shared public resources into political trophies.

If tech companies quietly comply every time Trump demands reality be rewritten, the public loses one more safeguard against authoritarian politics. Maps should help people understand the world as it is, not as one politician wants it branded.

Add your name now and tell Apple: don’t rewrite maps for Trump.

The petition to Apple reads:

"Restore Lake Ontario’s name in Apple Maps for U.S. users, stop using politically motivated names imposed by Donald Trump, and commit to map labels based on accuracy and history — not political pressure."
