Three in four teens use AI companion chatbots, but research shows that the use of AI for companionship is not safe for kids, period. At least three kids have already taken their own lives after turning to AI for companionship. Without real safeguards in place, these tragedies will continue. Research shows that AI companions will engage in graphic sexual role-play with kids and teens, invoke offensive racial stereotypes, and even encourage kids to hurt themselves or others. Without real safety standards, these tragedies will keep happening and parents will be left to pick up the pieces. Our children deserve better than untested, unsafe AI disguised as support.
