Stop Trump’s Weaponizing of the FBI Against Climate Groups

Recent reports reveal that the FBI is attempting to intimidate climate groups with accusations of fraud simply for their involvement in climate action initiatives funded by the Biden administration. The bank Citibank recently said in a court filing that it was told to freeze climate groups’ bank accounts at the FBI’s request. 

Members of Congress must take immediate action to prevent the Trump administration from using the FBI to target climate organizations with threats of criminal charges and asset seizure. 

In response to this alarming misuse of federal power, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse has launched an inquiry into potential misconduct by law enforcement surrounding the freeze on EPA climate funding. This investigation aims to uncover the truth about whether the FBI and other agencies are being weaponized to suppress climate organizations that are working to address environmental justice and climate change. 

This unprecedented assault on environmental organizations must be stopped. Sign the petition to call on Members of Congress to join Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) in standing up against these attacks and this misuse of the FBI’s authority.

Trump’s use of the FBI to target legitimate climate advocacy organizations represents a dangerous precedent in the fight against climate change. These groups are being accused of  “possible criminal violations,” including “conspiracy to defraud the United States.” This effort to criminalize the work of organizations engaged in climate action undermines our democracy and the right to work toward a sustainable future.
