Stop Trump’s Reflecting Pool From Endangering Ducks

Ducks and ducklings should not be dying in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

But recent reports of dead birds in and around the pool are raising serious questions about whether changes tied to the Trump administration’s Reflecting Pool “upgrades” are putting wildlife in danger.

The Reflecting Pool is not a Trump Hotel. It is part of the National Mall — a public space, a national landmark, and habitat for birds and other animals who depend on clean, safe water. No political vanity project is worth poisoning ducks, degrading water quality, or turning a treasured public space into a hazard for wildlife.

The Department of the Interior must act immediately.

Interior should reject any current or future Reflecting Pool upgrades, treatments, coatings, chemicals, repairs, or design changes that could harm ducks, ducklings, migratory birds, fish, or other animals. And if any recent changes are already putting wildlife at risk, Interior must fix them now.

That means fully investigating the bird deaths, publicly disclosing what materials or chemicals have been used, bringing in independent wildlife and water-quality experts, and immediately halting or reversing any changes that could be contributing to harm.

The American people deserve transparency. And wildlife deserves protection.

The Trump administration cannot be allowed to put cosmetics, politics, or ego ahead of living animals. The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool should reflect our nation’s values — not become another example of reckless disregard for the natural world.

Sign the petition: Tell the Department of the Interior to reject any Reflecting Pool “upgrades” that harm wildlife — and immediately correct any changes that are putting animals in danger.
