Stop Trump’s Mail-Ballot Restrictions Before Voting Starts

The Supreme Court just gave Donald Trump an opening to make voting by mail harder — right before Americans start casting ballots in the 2026 midterms.

Yesterday, the Court cleared a major obstacle to parts of Trump’s executive order seeking to impose new federal requirements on how states run mail voting. The Court did not rule that those restrictions are lawful — but its decision could let the administration move forward before the legality is resolved

That matters now because ballots are about to go out. The U.S. Postal Service has already laid out plans that could condition its handling of states’ mail ballots on compliance with the administration’s new rules.

Congress must act before voters get caught in the chaos. Tell Congress: Stop Trump’s mail-ballot restrictions before they disrupt the midterms.

Millions of Americans rely on voting by mail — including seniors, people with disabilities, rural voters, military families, Americans overseas, and people who cannot easily get to the polls.

Trump’s plan risks changing the rules at the worst possible moment. Election officials are already preparing ballots. Voters are already making plans. Last-minute federal restrictions could create confusion, delays, and new barriers for eligible voters simply trying to make their voices heard.

No president should be able to use executive power to rewrite election rules just as voting begins.

Congress has the authority to stop federal agencies from imposing new mail-voting requirements at the eleventh hour and protect voters before the damage is done. We need to build pressure now to make that happen.

This is a basic question of democracy: Will eligible Americans be able to vote under clear, stable rules — or will Donald Trump be allowed to move the goalposts after election preparations are already underway?

Add your name now and tell Congress to stop Trump’s mail-ballot restrictions before voting starts.

The petition to Congress reads:

“Stop the Trump administration’s new mail-ballot restrictions before voting begins. Prevent federal agencies from imposing last-minute requirements that could block or disrupt mail voting in the 2026 midterm elections.”
