The U.S. Army is lining up military police, trauma surgeons and engineers for a possible deployment to Cuba in as little as 90 days – the building blocks of an occupation. Congress can stop this ILLEGAL war before a single soldier boards a plane, but only if enough of us demand a vote right now. The president hasn't been shy about where this is headed: "Taking Cuba in some form, yeah… I think I could do anything I want with it, if you want to know the truth." The war on Cuba's people has already started. A U.S. oil blockade has choked the island's fuel supply since January. Cuba's power grid has collapsed nationwide six times in a year, leaving more than 9 million people in the dark for 20 hours or more at a stretch. Picture a hospital ward when the generators run dry. U.S. sanctions have pushed Cuba's infant mortality rate up 148% since 2018 – an estimated 1,800 babies who should be alive today. Now they want to add bombs and boots. Pentagon planners have already studied an air assault by thousands of 101st Airborne troops. A U.S. occupation 90 miles from Florida, on an island where Russian warships have docked, is exactly how conflict spirals start. The last time Washington pushed Cuba to the brink, the whole world came within one bad decision of NUCLEAR war. And Americans pay for every one of these wars of choice. This year's war on Iran sent diesel to record highs and dragged grocery bills up with it. Nobody voted for a sequel. Congress can stop this, and fast. The Constitution gives Congress, and Congress alone, the power to declare war. Rep. Nydia Velázquez's Cuba War Powers Resolution, H.Con.Res. 106, orders the president to remove U.S. forces from hostilities against Cuba unless Congress authorizes them. It's privileged, which means supporters can force a floor vote without the Speaker's permission, putting every Representative on the record. Just Foreign Policy and 44 other organizations have already called for that vote. What moves a Representative is hearing from the people they work for – before the troops are called up, not after. We call on every Member of the U.S. House of Representatives to vote YES on H.Con.Res. 106 and stop an ILLEGAL war on Cuba before it starts. The Army gave itself 90 days. Add your name now.
