Stop Trump’s EPA From Letting Coal Plants Poison Our Water

Coal companies have polluted our air and water for decades — and now the Trump administration wants to give them permission to dump even MORE toxic waste into our rivers and streams.

The Environmental Protection Agency is moving to roll back limits on toxic wastewater from coal-fired power plants, opening the door for dangerous pollutants like mercury, arsenic, and lead to contaminate drinking water supplies across the country.

This kind of reckless giveaway to corporate polluters puts communities in danger while fossil fuel executives cash in. These safeguards exist for a reason: because coal plants have a long history of dumping toxic chemicals into waterways that millions of people rely on for drinking water, fishing, and recreation. 

Weakening these protections sends a clear message that the Trump administration is willing to sacrifice public health and environmental safety to help dirty energy companies avoid accountability. Americans should not have to worry that the water coming out of their taps could be contaminated so coal corporations can cut costs.

Coal plants are among the biggest contributors to the climate crisis, pumping massive amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year. At a time when we are being devastated by worsening heat waves, floods, wildfires, hurricanes, and droughts fueled by climate change, rolling back environmental protections is the exact opposite of what we need. 

Instead of accelerating the transition to clean, renewable energy, Trump’s EPA is doubling down on dirty fossil fuels and protecting the industries driving climate chaos. We need to fight back now.

These poisons don’t just disappear. They end up in our water, our communities, and our bodies — increasing the risk of cancer, brain damage, birth defects, and serious heart and lung disease. Wildlife and ecosystems suffer too, as toxic runoff devastates rivers, fish populations, and fragile habitats.

Communities living near coal plants — often low-income communities and communities of color — will suffer the most. They deserve clean air, safe water, and protection from climate disaster, not more toxic pollution dumped in their backyards.

The fossil fuel industry has made billions while fueling environmental destruction and climate chaos. We cannot allow the Trump administration to sacrifice public health and our planet just to boost coal company profits.

The EPA’s job is supposed to be protecting people and the environment — not helping polluters evade accountability.
