Stop Trump’s DOJ Attack on the Free Press

The DOJ recently launched an antitrust investigation into ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC, and Fox News after the television networks paused White House pool coverage in solidarity with CNN, which the Trump administration had attempted to remove from its scheduled pool assignment.

That should alarm every American. Antitrust law is supposed to protect the public from monopolies and corporate abuse. It should never be twisted into a weapon for punishing journalists who stand up for press freedom.

Tell the Senate Judiciary Committee: "Investigate Trump’s DOJ attack on the free press. Expose any abuse of antitrust power and protect journalists from political retaliation."

A free press is not a favor granted by the White House. It is a constitutional right and a core protection against government abuse.

Press freedom advocates warning that this investigation appears to be a pretext to obtain records about how networks make coverage decisions. That is exactly why Congress cannot look away.

The Senate Judiciary Committee oversees the Justice Department and antitrust enforcement. Its members must force the DOJ to explain who ordered this investigation, what communications took place with the White House, and whether outside political pressure influenced the probe.

Add your name now and demand the Senate Judiciary Committee defend the First Amendment before Trump’s DOJ turns antitrust enforcement into a tool of censorship.

The petition to the Senate Judiciary Committee reads:

"Launch immediate hearings into the Justice Department’s antitrust investigation of ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC, and Fox News. Subpoena communications between DOJ, the White House, and outside political actors. Determine whether antitrust authority is being abused to retaliate against journalists and chill protected First Amendment activity."
