The New York Times recently reported that some states have halted construction of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations following an order from Donald Trump. The story notes that the loss of charging infrastructure could be most felt in rural areas—the places where EV chargers are most needed in order to increase range and adoption of EVs. In a time when urgent action on climate change and clean energy solutions is vital, this attempt to freeze EV charger construction funding is a direct step backward for our nation’s progress toward a cleaner, greener future. Tell Congress to ensure that all funding they allocated is spent on EV charging infrastructure. The Biden administration expanded access to EV charging stations, a critical piece of the transition to sustainable transportation and reducing our carbon footprint. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, passed in 2021, allocated billions to build a network of EV chargers across the country, aiming to make electric cars more accessible to all Americans, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and decrease reliance on fossil fuels. However, President Trump’s recent decision to freeze this funding is an attempt to undermine those efforts. His actions would not only slow down the adoption of electric vehicles but also jeopardize our nation's climate goals. We cannot afford to reverse course at a time when the effects of climate change are already being felt globally. Congress must act to stop the Trump Administration from blocking the construction. Sign the petition to urge Congress to take swift action to direct the Trump Administration to ensure that funding for EV charging infrastructure continues as directed under the law passed in 2021. Without charging stations, it is difficult to make that switch and we should all have that option as provided under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Sign the petition to tell Congress to uphold the nation’s commitment to clean energy and block President Trump’s latest move to freeze EV charger funding. https://www-nytimes-com.translate.goog/2025/02/07/climate/trump-ev-charger-funding-freeze.html
