Stop Trump from Deploying Troops in U.S. Cities

Donald Trump is escalating a dangerous and unlawful campaign of militarization against the American people. He first sent the National Guard into Los Angeles, then Washington, D.C., and now threatens to send the Guard into Memphis and active-duty troops into Portland. Trump has vowed to unleash the “full force” of the U.S. military in American cities — shredding constitutional limits and endangering peaceful protesters.

This is illegal. The Posse Comitatus Act forbids using the U.S. military for domestic law enforcement. Just this month, a federal judge ruled that Trump violated the law by sending the Guard into Los Angeles, warning he is trying to create a “national police force with the president as its chief.” Trump is ignoring the courts, trampling the rule of law, and declaring war on his own citizens.

The U.S. Supreme Court must act now by issuing a nationwide injunction blocking Trump from deploying the military in our streets. Portland already shows the danger when federal forces occupy cities — with tear gas, beatings, and unlawful detentions. If Trump follows through, Americans will be killed or gravely injured. The Court has the authority and the duty to intervene before it is too late.

We are at a constitutional breaking point. A rogue president is using the armed forces to crush dissent and consolidate power. If the Court delays, it will embolden Trump to act with even greater lawlessness. The Justices must act now — not weeks from now, not after hearings, but today — to protect American lives and preserve the principle that the military serves the people, not a single man.

The stakes could not be higher. Trump has already promised to bring “full force” against his political opponents. That is not democracy; that is authoritarianism. The Supreme Court must put an immediate stop to it.
