Donald Trump’s family cryptocurrency company is one step closer to getting its own federally chartered bank—and Trump’s own administration is helping decide whether it gets the green light. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency has granted World Liberty Financial preliminary conditional approval for a national trust bank charter. That means Trump’s regulators could soon oversee a bank tied directly to his family’s financial interests. This reeks of self-dealing. We have to act now to stop it before the preliminary approval becomes final. Tell Comptroller Jonathan Gould: Stop the Trump family’s cryptocurrency bank corruption. Demand Trump divests. Trump and his family have already made enormous sums from cryptocurrency ventures, including World Liberty Financial. Now that same family business could receive valuable federal banking privileges from officials serving under Trump. Sen. Elizabeth Warren warned the OCC about this conflict and urged regulators to halt the application until Trump divested. They moved forward anyway. But the deal is not done. World Liberty’s approval is still preliminary and conditional. Gould can still stop final approval. If he refuses, Congress must step in—but building public pressure on the comptroller himself is an important first step. This is bigger than cryptocurrency. No president should be able to use the power of government while his family profits from businesses regulated by that same government. Add your name and demand accountability now. The petition to Comptroller of the Currency Jonathan Gould reads: “Do not grant final approval to World Liberty Trust Company while President Trump and his family retain financial conflicts involving World Liberty Financial. Require divestment and an independent conflict-of-interest review before the charter moves forward.”
