OpenAI and Oracle have plans to build one of the world’s largest data centers in New Mexico. The massive data center needs an enormous new gas pipeline to fuel it. State regulators have already rejected one attempt to build the pipeline. This project would release about 10 million tons of climate pollution a year, roughly as much as all of New Mexico's biggest cities combined. And it would lock the state into new gas dependence for decades, right when we should be moving toward wind and solar. Tell the New Mexico Environmental Department not to approve a permit for a project whose entire power plan depends on a gas pipeline that still hasn't been built. Nobody’s right to breathe clean air and drink safe water should be the price of "progress" so a few AI billionaires can rake in even more money.
