Deadly floods are swallowing Texas—and this could be just the beginning. Unless we fight back and restore climate protections now, this devastation will only grow.

Southeastern Texas is drowning under catastrophic flooding that has killed dozens, displaced thousands, and destroyed homes and infrastructure. Experts are clear: climate change is fueling these disasters. Warmer air traps more moisture, unleashing storms that are stronger and more destructive. Yet President Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress have done the unthinkable—they’ve gutted the very protections meant to defend us.

Tell Congress: “Don’t wait for the next disaster to take climate change seriously. Restore funding for climate change protections, energy efficiency incentives, and investment in a clean energy future now.”

These aren’t hypothetical issues. Dozens of children died in an extreme flood that looked exactly like we’d expect in a world where the climate has changed.

As more crises strike, the poorest and least equipped to recover communities will be the hardest hit. Meanwhile, fossil fuel executives continue to rake in profits as Washington slashes funding for climate resilience and tears up environmental safeguards.

Rep. Joaquin Castro put it bluntly: "Flash flood emergencies are happening more frequently than ever." He’s right. The climate crisis is here, and the clock is ticking.

Instead of serving corporate polluters, Congress must act now to reinstate climate protections, end fossil fuel subsidies, and invest in real flood defense infrastructure that saves lives. We need to overwhelm them with public pressure, while this crisis is on the front page, to prevent the next tragedy.
