Stop Republicans' Big Bank Bailout Bill

House Republicans are pushing a dangerous Wall Street deregulation bill that would make the next taxpayer-funded bank bailout more likely.

H.R. 6955, the Main Street Capital Access Act, is being sold as help for community banks. But advocates, labor unions, consumer groups, and housing organizations warn that it would weaken core safeguards, reduce oversight, and let bigger banks take more risks with less accountability.

We have seen this story before. When regulators are blocked from seeing risks early, problems build in the shadows. Banks gamble. Executives profit. And when the system cracks, working families, retirees, small businesses, and taxpayers are left holding the bag.

Tell Congress: Stop H.R. 6955 and reject this Wall Street giveaway before it puts our economy at risk again.

This bill would raise regulatory thresholds, make it harder for examiners to act quickly, weaken scrutiny of bank mergers, and erode tools that help detect redlining and discrimination in lending. It would also open new loopholes for banks to delay enforcement and contest oversight.

Americans are already struggling with high prices, unaffordable housing, and economic uncertainty. Congress should be focused on protecting consumers, borrowers, workers, and small businesses — not helping Wall Street rewrite the rules so banks can get bigger, riskier, and harder to police.

If lawmakers allow this bill to pass, they will be choosing bank lobbyists over the people who pay the price when deregulation fails. Public pressure now can force Congress to reject this bill and defend the safeguards that keep our financial system stable.

Add your name now and tell Congress: no more Wall Street giveaways. Stop the GOP’s Big Bank Bailout Bill.

The petition to Congress reads:

"Reject H.R. 6955, the Main Street Capital Access Act. Do not weaken bank safeguards, reduce oversight, or make future publicly financed bailouts more likely. Protect consumers, borrowers, retirees, small businesses, and the stability of our financial system."
