More than 490,000 tons of pea-sized microplastics called plastic pellets (or nurdles) flood the world's oceans and environment every year. These pellets are the building blocks for most plastic products, melted and molded into items like plastic bottles and bags. But the plastic industry regularly spills these tiny plastic pellets during manufacturing and transportation, harming our waterways and wildlife. Currently, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is not stopping these microplastics from pouring into our oceans, lakes, and rivers. Congress can change that. Recently, members of Congress reintroduced the Plastic Pellet Free Waters Act, and we need your voice to build more support for the bill. Join Sailors for the Sea Powered by Oceana to tell Congress to pass this bill and protect our oceans from dangerous microplastic pollution.
