Stop ICE From Arresting Firefighters Battling Wildfires

As wildfires fueled by climate change rage across our communities, the Trump Administration’s ICE agents are arresting the very firefighters risking their lives to protect us. These reckless actions make us all less safe, leaving families and homes vulnerable when we need every hand battling the flames.

At least two firefighters working to contain the Bear Gulch wildfire were arrested by ICE—despite doing essential, life‑saving work to protect communities.

This reckless action strikes at the heart of public safety. As climate change worsens because of Donald Trump’s policies, wildfires are becoming hotter, more widespread, and more frequent. These firefighters are our first — and sometimes only —line of defense. By allowing ICE to arrest those combating these infernos, Donald Trump not only betrays their sacrifice, but he is also allowing ICE to undermine our collective safety.

Arresting first responders on the frontlines of climate‑exacerbated disasters is immoral, counterproductive, and dangerously short‑sighted. 1: A public directive that ICE, DHS, and Border Patrol operations must not interfere with wildfire response efforts, except in truly extraordinary and narrowly defined public safety situations.

2: Full accountability and review into the policy failure that permitted agents to target fire crews mid‑crisis.

3: Commitment to invest in climate‑safe wildfire response, not punitive enforcement, as our planet faces increasingly frequent and severe blazes.
