Unsolicited political emails from politicians are out of control. And if Gmail gets its way, the problem could soon get much worse. Last month, Gmail asked the Federal Election Commission for an advisory opinion on a proposed pilot program to allow federal political campaigns and party committees to bypass spam filtering algorithms and send messages directly to your inbox without consequence. That’s right – political campaigns wouldn’t be subject to the same anti-spam rules as everyone else. If the FEC signs off on Gmail’s proposal it will open the floodgates to a drastic increase in scammy fundraising emails from countless political campaigns you have no interest in hearing from. Tell the Federal Election Commission: Stop Gmail’s spam plan from moving forward.
