In the 2024 federal election alone, just 100 billionaire families spent roughly $2.6 billion trying to influence who wins power in Washington. Much of that money flowed through super PACs and outside groups that can raise unlimited funds because of the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision. Before Citizens United, billionaire spending accounted for less than 1% of political donations. Today, it’s nearly one-fifth of all money in federal elections. That tidal wave of billionaire cash helped elect far-right candidates aligned with Donald Trump – politicians now pushing policies that reward the ultra-rich with tax breaks while working families pay the price. Some of the same billionaires who bankrolled those campaigns are now gaining influence in government appointments and policy decisions. This is exactly what critics warned would happen when the Supreme Court opened the floodgates to unlimited political spending. Our democracy should belong to voters — not billionaire megadonors. Congress has the power to fight back. Lawmakers can advance legislation and a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United, restore limits on political spending, and make it clear that money is not speech and billionaires are not more important than the American people. But Congress won’t act unless the public demands it. Sign this petition today and demand that Congress overturn Citizens United and take back our democracy from billionaire donors. If we raise our voices together now, we can force Washington to choose the people over the billionaires buying our elections.
