We stand with more than 100 organizations — including advocacy groups, labor unions, and academic institutions — who are pushing back against House Republicans’ dangerous attempt to block states from regulating artificial intelligence.

Tucked inside a sweeping budget bill backed by President Trump is a provision that would prohibit states from enforcing any laws regulating AI systems for the next 10 years. This would mean no protections from biased algorithms, no accountability for harmful or exploitative systems, and no power for states to act when Washington won’t.

With AI already influencing healthcare, hiring, education, policing, and more, we must ensure transparency, accountability, and equity — not let Big Tech off the hook.

The 141 organizations leading this charge include the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Economic Policy Institute, the Alphabet Workers Union, and Cornell University. Together, they’re sending a clear message: communities, not corporations, must shape the future of AI.
