Stand with the NAACP Against Environmental Injustice

The NAACP has taken bold action to protect the health and safety of Black communities in Memphis, filing an intent to sue Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, over dangerous air pollution caused by its new supercomputer facility.

Located in a predominantly Black neighborhood, the facility has operated gas turbines without a permit—releasing harmful pollutants like nitrogen oxides and formaldehyde into the air. Experts warn that this increases cancer risks and worsens air quality in a community already facing environmental burdens.

The Southern Environmental Law Center says xAI may be running more than twice the number of turbines it reported, all without appropriate safeguards or transparency. Despite promises of investment and jobs, no community should be forced to sacrifice clean air and public health.
