Stand with NBC News Against Trump's Attacks

Donald Trump is trying to turn the FCC into a weapon against journalists who tell the truth.

After NBC News’ Kristen Welker accurately reported that Trump’s endorsement record had "mixed results," Trump demanded she be reported to the Federal Communications Commission for "rebuke or punishment."

This is a blatantly unconstitutional attempt to bully a journalist, intimidate a newsroom, and warn every reporter in America what could happen if they refuse to bend their coverage to Trump's agenda.

NBC News should know that the public has its back. If NBCUniversal stands firm, defends Kristen Welker, and refuses to let Trump or the FCC intimidate its journalists, we will stand with them.

The FCC is supposed to serve the public interest, not the president’s ego. But FCC Chair Brendan Carr has repeatedly targeted outlets and programs Trump dislikes, including ABC, Disney, Jimmy Kimmel, and now potentially NBC. When regulators threaten broadcasters over speech, the message is unmistakable: say what the administration wants, or face consequences.

That is why NBC News must not stand alone. Trump wants media companies to calculate that defending the truth is too costly. We need to show NBCUniversal that the opposite is true: the public will support newsrooms that defend independent journalism and refuse to cave to authoritarian pressure.

The free press is strongest when journalists know the public is with them. NBC News has every reason to stand up to Trump, reject FCC intimidation, and continue reporting the facts without fear or favor.
