Stand With Journalists Against Government Intimidation

The FBI’s recent execution of a search warrant against a journalist marks a deeply troubling escalation in government intimidation of the press. Using law-enforcement powers to search a reporter’s home or seize journalistic materials is not routine procedure—it is an extraordinary action that threatens source confidentiality, chills investigative reporting, and undermines the First Amendment.

When the FBI targets journalists instead of those abusing power, it sends a dangerous signal to reporters and whistleblowers alike: exposing the truth may come at the cost of surveillance, raids, or prosecution. History shows that these tactics do not protect democracy—they weaken it by discouraging scrutiny and shielding misconduct from public view.

We stand with journalists and demand the FBI immediately cease investigations and search warrants that target members of the press. Federal law enforcement must respect press freedom, strengthen protections for reporters and their sources, and be held accountable for actions that intimidate journalism. A democracy cannot function when truth-tellers are treated like criminals.
