Stand with Harvard Against Political Retaliation

We stand with Harvard University in its principled refusal to abandon core academic freedoms and constitutional rights in the face of unprecedented federal overreach.

President Trump’s administration is threatening to strip Harvard of vital grant funding, freeze billions in federal research dollars, and revoke its tax-exempt status—all to force political compliance with an extreme agenda. But Harvard is standing firm: it will not sacrifice free expression, academic independence, or its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

President Alan Garber made clear that Harvard is pursuing needed reforms to combat antisemitism and other forms of discrimination—on its own terms and in full compliance with the law. Yet rather than support those efforts, the Trump administration is demanding ideological conformity and using taxpayer funds as a weapon against higher education.

This is not just about Harvard. This is about the future of all institutions of learning, and whether they will remain places of free thought and rigorous inquiry—or be forced to bow to political pressure.

We applaud Harvard’s refusal to be bullied. We call on Congress, academic leaders, and citizens everywhere to defend the independence of our universities and resist this dangerous assault on education and democracy.
