Republicans in Congress are threatening to let critical subsidies from the Affordable Care Act (ACA) expire, which would lead to devastating insurance premium hikes and millions losing coverage. 24 million people, including many care workers and their families, can only afford health insurance on state marketplaces because of ACA subsidies. Without these subsidies, many will be forced to choose between rent, groceries, and a doctor’s visit. That’s a choice no family – and no domestic worker working around the clock to care for our loved ones – should ever have to make. The pain will hit care and other low-wage workers hardest – especially Black, Latina, immigrant, and women-headed households. An estimated 8.2 million people will lose insurance. For months, Democrats in Congress have been sounding the alarm, introducing legislation to ensure families don’t see their healthcare costs skyrocket. But so far Republican leadership has REFUSED to extend the subsidies that help millions afford insurance – preferring instead to push through the largest healthcare cuts in Medicaid history. Will you take action right now and demand that Congress extends the ACA subsidies and protects affordable healthcare for all?
