Supreme Court justices are appointed for life by the president, and have the ability to shape public policy for decades.

In other words: a single president could hold sway over the direction of our country,  long after their term of office – which is exactly what we’re seeing now.   

Trump has appointed 1/3rd of the justices on the current court – the same court that has overturned abortion rights, legalized  discrimination of trans people, and struck down campaign finance limits, among other things.

Even worse, using strategic retirements, any single president could have an undue and oversized influence on the justice systems for decades to come. 

With enough signatures, we can prove to Congress that Americans are united in our desire for change. It’s time to remove unchecked lifetime power from the nation’s highest court. 

Only Congress can change the laws around term limits, and Congress is accountable to us.
