Say NO to Media Mega-Mergers — Protect Press Freedom

Big broadcasters are pushing through mega-mergers at the worst possible time — when press freedom and a robust independent media are already under threat. 

When a handful of corporate conglomerates control most local stations and national media, the result is less diversity in perspectives, fewer watchdog voices, and a media environment increasingly vulnerable to political or commercial pressure. 

Journalists and news organization leaders must pledge to resist consolidation that reduces media pluralism. They should affirm commitment to editorial independence, local news coverage, and resisting regulatory changes that hand over control of the airwaves to a powerful few.
