The Supreme Court's decision overturning Roe v. Wade makes it clear: unelected, highly partisan judges are taking aim at the rights we have already secured. Clarence Thomas's concurring opinion makes it clear: He wants to let states outlaw birth control, marriage equality, and even reinstate sodomy laws. Republicans lost these decisions in the court of public opinion, but this unaccountable, out-of-control extremist court is another matter entirely. For 49 years, Democrats relied on Roe v. Wade to secure abortion rights and left us at the mercy of this Supreme Court. Right now, Republicans (other than Clarence Thomas) say that they support equal marriage. If we can't get 10 Republican Senators to vote to enshrine marriage equality into law, voters deserve to know that before November. Let's lock it in. Congress MUST codify marriage equality into law before the Supreme Court can take it away.
