Protect communities from the serious health risks posed by unregulated CO2 pipelines. Under the guise of cutting carbon emissions and combating the climate crisis, the fossil fuel industry is championing carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects to prolong record profits at the expense of frontline communities, taxpayers, and the global climate. Pipeline companies are planning to build out a network of CO2 pipelines throughout the Midwest and Gulf Coast regions. But, the problem is that CO2 pipelines are dangerously under-regulated and pose significant safety hazards to communities and the environment. Join Earthjustice, the premier environmental law organization, in telling the Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) that it must ensure the safety of communities by enacting comprehensive regulation of CO2 pipelines. This administration has promised to issue its proposed rule for regulating CO2 pipelines, but the proposal has been stalled since February 2024. Tell Secretary Sean Duffy that communities need protection from the dangers of CO2 pipelines: PHMSA must publish its regulations as quickly as possible.
