Rebuild American Industry for a Clean-Energy Future

China is sprinting ahead in the race to build the green factories that will power the 21st-century economy — and the US  is falling dangerously behind. While workers in China break ground on hundreds of clean-industry projects, the US is still tied to the past, pouring billions into fossil fuels. Every day we wait, we lose jobs, innovation, and leadership to a rival that’s already defining the global clean-energy future. 

We need bold action to rebuild American industry, cut climate pollution, and make the U.S. a world leader in clean manufacturing before it’s too late.

According to a new report, more than 1,000 commercial-scale clean-industry projects — producing green hydrogen, low-carbon steel, cement, and chemicals — are underway across 70 countries. China alone has more than 200 major plants in development, from massive hydrogen hubs to low-emissions cement facilities that will supply the world’s next generation of construction materials. By contrast, the US has only 114 projects in development, and just 13 of those are operational.

These industries aren’t just about climate — they’re about power, jobs, and independence. Clean industrial production can slash nearly 30% of global carbon emissions while creating hundreds of thousands of high-wage, union-friendly jobs here at home. If China dominates these markets, it will also control the supply chains, exports, and technologies that determine who prospers in the decades ahead.
