Protect Our Grid: Invest in Clean, Reliable Energy Now

America's power grid was already under strain before the AI datacenter boom arrived. Now, these massive facilities — each capable of consuming as much power as a major city — are piling on. They're driving up demand for transformers, copper, and other critical grid components, creating shortages that slow down the broader clean energy transition. And when the grid can't keep up, some datacenters aren't waiting — they're turning to dirty natural gas to fill the gap, undermining our climate commitments in the process. 

The same pattern already playing out in consumer electronics, where datacenter operators are cornering the market on memory and storage chips, could soon hit our energy supply — with consequences for every business and household in America.

A datacenter moratorium may be necessary to prevent the situation from getting worse. But we cannot wait for that fight to protect our grid. We call on Congress to invest now in a smarter, cleaner, more resilient national energy grid — one built to meet the needs of all Americans, not just the demands of Big Tech. 

That means funding grid modernization, accelerating the clean energy transition, and ensuring that the race to build AI infrastructure doesn't come at the cost of the reliable, affordable power that our communities, businesses, and climate depend on.
