Georgia lawmakers are rushing through a dangerous new bill, Senate Bill 1 (SB1), that doesn’t just attack trans kids—it puts ALL students, especially Black girls, at risk of harassment, discrimination, and state-sanctioned abuse. SB 1 will turn schools into sites of gender policing, forcing students to "prove" their gender to play. Unfortunately, we know exactly what that means. Black girls, who have always been labeled as “too strong,” “too aggressive,” or “not feminine enough,” will be targets of this harmful policy. We’ve seen this before. Athletes like Serena Williams, Sha’Carri Richardson, and Caster Semenya, cis athletes, have all been subjected to intense body policing as they navigate labels questioning their gender based on harmful misogynistic and white supremacist ideals about Black women’s bodies. This scrutiny went so far that Caster Semenya was banned from competing simply for existing as herself. Now, this behavior is on its way to being legitimized through policy. This isn’t about fairness. This is about control. This is about surveillance. This is about exclusion. Our work at SnapCo. shows us that when trans women and girls are under attack, it impacts all of us. Join us to fight back.
