We all know the story too well: You sign up for a free trial or subscription, accidentally get charged, and then have to go back and cancel. But what if that subscription is really hard to cancel, or it’s really deceiving? Thankfully, the Department of Justice is investigating Adobe for ‘deceiving’ subscriptions that are too hard to cancel. They alleged that Adobe hid early cancellation fees and trapped consumers in pricey subscriptions. Sign the petition urging the DOJ and the Federal Trade Commission to do everything in their power to protect Americans from deceiving subscriptions. According to the DOJ, Adobe “hides” the terms of its annual, paid monthly plan in the “fine print and behind optional textboxes and hyperlinks.” “Adobe trapped customers into year-long subscriptions through hidden early termination fees and numerous cancellation hurdles,” Samuel Levine, director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection said. “Americans are tired of companies hiding the ball during subscription signup and then putting up roadblocks when they try to cancel.” Companies have the right to enforce subscription terms, but not when they are hidden and deceptive. Sign the petition today calling on the DOJ and FTC to protect Americans from deceiving subscriptions.
