The Supreme Court’s credibility is at an all-time low, and recent revelations about Justice Clarence Thomas’ blatant conflicts of interest and corruption have only deepened the public’s mistrust. Despite mounting evidence, the Judicial Conference recently declined to refer Thomas’s conduct to the Justice Department, exposing the glaring lack of accountability and ethics oversight at the highest court in the land. Unlike every other federal court, the Supreme Court operates without a binding code of ethics. Justices are free to accept lavish gifts, fail to disclose financial entanglements, and refuse to recuse themselves in cases of clear conflicts of interest. This lack of accountability undermines the public’s faith in the court and threatens the foundations of our democracy. The Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act would change that. This essential legislation would require justices to follow an enforceable code of ethics, make their financial disclosures more transparent, and establish clear recusal standards for cases where conflicts of interest arise. It’s a common-sense reform designed to restore trust and integrity to our nation’s highest court. Last summer, Republicans in the Senate blocked this critical legislation, prioritizing partisan loyalty over accountability. Meanwhile, scandals like Justice Thomas’s undisclosed luxury vacations and real estate deals with billionaire benefactors continue to make headlines, tarnishing the court’s reputation. We cannot wait any longer to act. We call on Congress to pass the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act now. The American people deserve a Supreme Court that serves justice—not personal or political interests. Sign this petition to demand accountability and transparency from the Supreme Court. Let’s make it clear that no one—not even a Supreme Court justice—is above the law.
