New: 2025 Breaks Climate Records — Congress Must Act

A new scientific analysis confirms what millions of people are already experiencing firsthand: 2025 was one of the hottest years ever recorded, pushing the planet past a critical climate threshold and shattering the goals world leaders once promised to uphold. 

This isn’t an abstract warning. It is a flashing red alarm. Record-breaking heat is fueling deadly heatwaves, historic floods, catastrophic wildfires, and intensifying storms — with working families, seniors, and frontline communities paying the price.

Scientists now warn that the three-year global temperature average has eclipsed the 1.5°C limit, a line the world pledged not to cross. Every fraction of a degree beyond this point brings more destruction, more displacement, and more lives lost. 

Yet even as the science grows more dire, the Trump Administration continues to block meaningful climate action and reverse what little progress our country has made  — doubling down on fossil fuels while communities across the country face worsening disasters.

When the executive branch refuses to lead, Congress must act.

We urge House and Senate leaders to take immediate, decisive action to confront the climate crisis by:

1: Passing strong, enforceable climate legislation that rapidly cuts pollution in line with the latest science. Even if Trump threatens a veto, Congress must force him to make that choice.

2: Ending new fossil fuel leasing and subsidies, which lock in decades of additional climate damage.

3: Investing in climate resilience and disaster preparedness, especially for communities already on the frontlines of extreme heat, flooding, and fires.

4: Conducting oversight to hold the administration responsible for its actions in dismantling key government offices and functions that can offset the impacts of climate change.

The climate crisis is no longer a future threat. It is here, now, and accelerating. The record-breaking heat of 2025 makes one thing clear: delay is a choice — and it is a dangerous one.

Congress has the power to act. The question is whether it will.
