As The New Republic reports, CBS News spent a weekend amplifying a town hall featuring Bari Weiss and Erika Kirk — even as multiple mass shootings unfolded, including a deadly attack at Brown University. Instead of centering urgent reporting on violence and public safety, CBS’s social feeds elevated promotional content.

When media outlets prioritize spectacle, personalities, or photo ops over real-time reporting on life-and-death events, they fail the public. Journalism should inform people in moments of crisis — not distract from them.
