Violence is never the answer — and gun violence is not inevitable. It’s the result of weak laws and leaders who put the gun lobby ahead of our lives. Last week made it painfully clear that gun violence spares no one. The fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk during a public event at Utah Valley University and the shooting at Evergreen High School in Colorado are not random tragedies — they’re policy failures. Whether at school, at a rally, or anywhere in public, our safety should never depend on luck. According to Everytown for Gun Safety, there have already been at least 91 incidents of gunfire on school grounds this year — and that count came before Evergreen. Gun violence is the leading cause of death for children and teens in the United States. We cannot accept a status quo where students practice lockdowns and families hope they aren’t next. We demand action that saves lives now: We will keep the spotlight on Congress until they schedule votes and pass laws that make all of us safer — no matter our ideology, race, gender, or income. Add your name if you believe our kids deserve classrooms, and our communities deserve public spaces, free from gunfire. We need action now—before it’s too late.
