As the 2026 elections approach, top Trump officials are openly floating a dangerous idea: placing ICE agents at polling locations. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche — Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer — told CPAC this week that immigration enforcement at the polls is on the table, while Border Czar Tom Homan refused to rule it out in recent media appearances. This is not normal. It is a direct threat to our democracy. Noncitizen voting is already extremely rare, with repeated investigations finding virtually no evidence of widespread fraud. The only real effect of sending ICE agents to polling places would be fear. It would intimidate immigrant communities, discourage eligible voters from showing up, and suppress turnout in communities of color. Even Steve Bannon has suggested that recent ICE deployments at airports were a “test run” for election-related operations. Federal law is clear: using government authority to interfere with voting is illegal. The Brennan Center for Justice has affirmed that federal forces are prohibited from being stationed at polling places in ways that could intimidate voters. Yet these statements from Trump-aligned officials signal a willingness to push those boundaries—or ignore them entirely. We call on Attorney General Pam Bondi, DHS leadership, and state election officials across the country to issue immediate, binding guidance prohibiting ICE presence at or near polling locations for the 2026 election cycle. Our elections must be free, fair, and accessible to all eligible voters—without fear, intimidation, or government overreach. Sign now to demand accountability and protect our democracy before it’s too late.
