January 30 Deadline: Democrats Must Stop Funding ICE

With days left before a government funding deadline, Democratic leaders are preparing to fund ICE again—even after a deadly operation showed the agency’s violence and impunity.

ICE agents killed Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen, during a DHS operation in Minneapolis. The shooting sparked national outrage and renewed calls from Democratic lawmakers to rein in an agency long known for abusive tactics and lack of accountability. Now, as Congress races toward a January 30 deadline to approve government spending, Democrats have a rare chance to act.

But so far, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries have refused to back calls to cut or condition ICE funding, even as pressure grows from within their own party. Instead, leadership appears ready to advance another spending deal that gives ICE billions more with few limits.

That choice would be unacceptable. Funding votes are one of the only tools Congress has to force accountability. Approving a clean DHS budget now would reward an agency that just killed a civilian and signal that outrage has an expiration date.

Progressive lawmakers have been clear: after Minneapolis, Democrats cannot justify more money for ICE without real cuts and enforceable reforms. Anything less is a betrayal of the communities they claim to protect.

We call on Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries, and Democratic appropriators to refuse any government funding bill that includes unrestricted ICE funding. Use the January 30 deadline to demand cuts and accountability.

This is a moment of choice. Sign this petition to demand that Democratic leadership stop funding ICE—before this deadline passes and another opportunity for justice is lost.
