It's Time to End Our Disastrous Plastic Policies

May is steadily approaching and, with it, the next meeting of the Plastics Treaty’s International Negotiating Committee where the future of plastic regulations will be decided. The United States remains rooted in their decision to pursue an environmentally reckless, nationally determined plastics policy so they can continue to profit from petrochemical corporations. We cannot afford to sacrifice our Earth for the sake of economic prosperity.

Other countries have attempted to persuade the United States to support a universal policy, one that legally binds every participating nation to the same standards, with no luck. The task then falls to us to challenge and demand our leaders and representatives to fight for the planet on our behalf.

The path the White House is sending us down won’t turn the tide against plastic pollution; what the United States is pushing is merely an extension of current practices, and that is no longer enough. We need to go one step further and demand a strong, powerful Plastics Treaty that dares us as a globe to be better.

Tell the White House to stop fueling the plastic crisis and join the Global Plastics Treaty.
