Investigate Speaker McCarthy’s Leak of January 6 Footage

Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's handed more than 40,000 hours of security video from the January 6 Capitol attack to far-right Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

Predictably, Carlson is now using the footage to continue trying to persuade Fox viewers that the violent attack on the U.S. Capitol was a peaceful event.

Now, watchdog organizations like Public Citizen are calling on the Office of Congressional Ethics to conduct an investigation into Speaker McCarthy's leak of the footage.

"The speaker's release of security footage exclusively to Tucker Carlson is pure and simple using congressional resources for partisan gamesmanship," Public Citizen wrote in a letter to the Office of Congressional Ethics.

"We ask that the Office of Congressional Ethics investigate whether the selective release of the Jan. 6 security footage on an exclusive basis by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy constitutes a violation of congressional rules, the letter concludes.
