Investigate Pete Hegseth for Iran War Insider Trading

"In a functional democracy, he would offer his resignation tonight."

That’s how economist Justin Wolfers responded to reports indicating that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth may have been caught trying to personally profit from the Iran war.

According to reporting from the Financial Times and others, a broker tied to Hegseth attempted to purchase a defense-focused investment fund shortly before U.S. military strikes on Iran. The timing raises urgent questions about whether someone with access to sensitive information tried to profit from it.

Now, that pressure is building in Congress. Senator Elizabeth Warren and other lawmakers have sent a letter directly to Hegseth demanding answers about the reported trade and whether any insider information was used.

War must never become a vehicle for private gain, and even the appearance of insider trading at this level demands immediate scrutiny.

Congress has both the authority and the responsibility to act. The House Oversight Committee and the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee must launch a full investigation, subpoena relevant records, and determine exactly what happened—and who knew what, and when.

The Pentagon has denied any wrongdoing. But denial is not accountability. When financial activity appears to align with advance knowledge of military action, it strikes at the heart of public trust.

We cannot allow conflicts of interest to go unchecked—especially when they intersect with decisions of war and peace. Our government must serve the public, not private portfolios.

Tell Congress: "Investigate Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for potential insider trading tied to the Iran strike. Demand full transparency, enforce ethics laws, and hold anyone accountable who used privileged information for personal gain."
