Investigate Israel’s Detention of U.S. Citizens & Officials

An American member of Congress says he was detained by armed Israeli settlers and Israeli soldiers — and Congress must investigate immediately.

Representative Ro Khanna says he and other Americans were stopped while visiting a Palestinian village in the occupied West Bank. 

According to Khanna, armed settlers blocked their convoy, brandished American-made rifles, kicked the van, mocked the delegation, and kept them from leaving. Israeli soldiers then arrived — and instead of protecting U.S. citizens, Khanna says they continued blocking the delegation.

That should alarm every American. If a U.S. official and American citizens can be detained and threatened by armed settlers, allegedly with the support of Israeli soldiers, then Congress cannot simply look away.

Tell Congress: Launch a full investigation into the detention of U.S. citizens and officials by Israeli settlers and Israeli soldiers in the West Bank. 

Palestinians in the West Bank have long reported settler violence, displacement, intimidation, and military complicity. Journalists have also been attacked while reporting in the region. 

Our government sends billions in military assistance to Israel. Lawmakers have a duty to find out whether U.S. weapons, U.S. taxpayer dollars, or Israeli forces supported or enabled this abuse.

If Congress stays silent now, it sends a dangerous message: that foreign governments receiving U.S. support can mistreat American citizens, intimidate journalists, and enable settler violence without consequences.
