Impeach Brendan Carr!

Brendan Carr, Trump's "attack-dog" Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair, spurred public outcry across the political spectrum for the chilling threats he leveled against ABC and Jimmy Kimmel in September. Carr effectively got Kimmel kicked off the air for exercising his First Amendment rights.

The New York Times reports that Carr plans to continue targeting media outlets for so-called "liberal bias." His message is clear: fall in line with what the White House wants, or face relentless attacks from an authoritarian administration.

This is a core part of Trump's attempt to take complete control over every corner of America, stamp out dissent, and crush the First Amendment. It's time for the U.S. House to protect free speech and the media from Trump's takeover.

Since his appointment as FCC Chair, Carr has attacked virtually every mainstream media company that's not Fox News, including ABC, CBS, and NBC. Meanwhile, the Trump administration has defunded PBS and NPR. This is not what the freedom of the press guaranteed by the First Amendment looks like.

After Kimmel made mildly critical comments about Trump, Carr responded by saying, "We can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to change conduct, on Kimmel, or there's going to be additional work for the FCC ahead."

FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez responded to the Kimmel ordeal saying, "What concerns me is how this administration is using every lever of power in order to bring broadcasters to heel, which is contrary to the First Amendment."

Trump, with Carr by his side, hopes he can silence his media critics and political opponents. And every time he succeeds, people become more fearful of expressing dissenting views, and Trump feels more emboldened to attack those he sees as enemies.

Carr plays a central role in this anti-First Amendment, media takeover crusade. It’s time for our lawmakers to put a stop to it.
