Wall Street investors are taking over doctors’ offices — and patients  nationwide are paying the price.

Private equity firms, insurance companies, and other corporate giants have found ways to control medical practices while pretending doctors are still in charge. Through management services organizations and loopholes, corporations can influence staffing, schedules, billing, revenue targets, and even the conditions under which doctors deliver care.

That means decisions that should be made by patients and physicians can be shaped by investors whose first duty is to profit. When corporate owners push doctors to see more patients, cut staff, raise prices, or stay silent about problems, everyone who depends on healthcare pays the price.
