Everyone Should Have the Right to Vote

The right to vote is under attack. And while many states have taken action to protect voting rights, others continue to put up roadblocks, making it much harder for Americans to make it to the polls.

For example, Nebraska’s secretary of state just rejected a new law that would have given felons the right to vote when they finish their sentence. Between 7,000-10,000 formerly incarcerated felons would have been given the right to vote.

“You know, if we have to take legal action we’ll take legal action. Just simply because we know we want our voices to be heard and our voices are going to be heard one way or another,” said TJ King, administrator and outreach coordinator for Black and Pink.

Formerly incarcerated individuals deserve to have their voice heard in elections. Blocking this law only adds more hurdles to protecting voting rights.
