End Trump Witch Hunt Against James Comey

Donald Trump is weaponizing the Justice Department to punish his political enemies—and James Comey is his latest target.

This week, Trump’s newly handpicked U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, Lindsey Halligan, announced an indictment against former FBI Director James Comey. After Halligan’s predecessor declined to press charges based on a lack of evidence, Trump kept the pressure on until he had a prosecutor willing to do his dirty work.

But if Halligan allows this case to go forward, she is handing Trump the keys to a lawless, authoritarian playbook and flushing her own professional reputation down the toilet. We have to make it clear that we will hold her accountable if she refuses to drop the charges.

Trump has openly demanded indictments of his critics, and now he’s getting them. But no prosecutor should ever serve as the president’s personal enforcer. 

That’s why we demand that U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan drop these charges now. Every day this case stays alive, it erodes public faith in the rule of law and sets a precedent that Trump—or any president—can use prosecutors to crush dissent.

Justice is not a weapon. Democracy is not a game. And James Comey must not be sacrificed to Trump’s obsession with revenge.
