End Canada’s Brutal Seal Hunt: Protect Seal Pups

Every year, tens of thousands of seals—many of them just weeks old—are killed in Canada’s commercial seal hunt, often for their fur. The vast majority of the seals killed are pups aged less than three months.

This isn’t subsistence hunting. This is a shrinking, heavily criticized industry driven by global demand for fur—a demand that is rapidly disappearing as people around the world reject cruelty.

Veterinary experts and animal welfare organizations have repeatedly raised alarms about the suffering involved. Seals are shot or clubbed on unstable ice floes, and many are not killed instantly, leaving them to endure prolonged pain before dying.

At the same time, climate change is already threatening seal populations by melting the sea ice they depend on. That means seal pups face a double threat: habitat loss and human exploitation.

The truth is simple: this industry no longer reflects our global values.

Countries around the world—including the European Union—have banned seal products because of animal welfare concerns. People everywhere are choosing compassion over cruelty.

And yet, Canada continues to allow this hunt.
Canada’s Prime Minister Carney has a choice: continue propping up a declining and cruel fur trade—or help lead the world toward a more humane, sustainable future.

Canada has an opportunity to invest in ethical alternatives that support coastal communities without harming wildlife—such as ecotourism and sustainable fisheries.

We cannot look away while baby seals are killed for fashion favored by the few.

Add your voice today. Sign the petition to urge Canada to end the commercial seal hunt and protect seal families once and for all.

Together, we can help end this cruelty and move toward a future where wildlife is respected—not exploited.

The petition to the Canadian Government reads: End Canada’s commercial seal hunt and protect seal families from unnecessary cruelty. As global markets reject the fur trade and climate change threatens seal populations, it’s time to choose humane, sustainable alternatives. Canada must align with modern values by ending this outdated industry and safeguarding wildlife for future generations.
