Drop Eni: Don’t Let Big Oil Sponsor the Winter Olympics

The Winter Olympics are supposed to celebrate the best of winter — snow, mountains, endurance, and the human spirit. But right now, the Winter Games are being pushed to the brink by the climate crisis.

That’s why we’re calling on the Milan-Cortina 2026 Organizing Committee and the International Olympic Committee to drop Eni S.p.A. as a main sponsor of the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Climate change is already rewriting what the Winter Olympics can be. Rising temperatures are shrinking snowpack, shortening winter seasons, and forcing host cities to rely more and more on artificial snow. Entire regions are seeing glaciers disappear and winters grow warmer, year after year. If this continues, the future of winter sports — and the communities built around them — is in serious danger.

And yet, the Olympics are partnering with Eni, one of the world’s 7 “supermajor” oil and gas companies, whose operations in more than 60 countries depend on extracting and selling the fossil fuels driving this crisis. Sponsorship from Eni doesn’t just look bad — it’s a direct contradiction. The Winter Olympics can’t claim to honor winter while taking money from an industry that’s melting it away.

The Olympic movement has a global influence. It shapes culture, inspires young people, and sets an example for what the world values. When the Winter Olympics accept fossil fuel sponsorship, it sends a dangerous message: that profit and branding matter more than science, safety, and the future.

The Olympics should be a symbol of courage and leadership — not a platform for greenwashing.

We urge the Winter Olympics to end Eni’s sponsorship immediately and commit to sponsors that align with a livable future that help to address — not worsen — the climate and biodiversity crises. Athletes deserve fair conditions. Fans deserve real integrity. And our planet deserves better than business-as-usual.
