Don’t Let Trump Use Hunger as a Political Weapon

A federal judge just blocked Donald Trump’s attempt to attach political strings to SNAP — but millions of families are still at risk if Congress fails to act.

The Trump administration tried to impose sweeping new conditions on the food assistance program that helps families, seniors, people with disabilities, and low-wage workers buy groceries, including demands tied to immigration and so-called “gender ideology.” The court stopped him for now. But the ruling is temporary. The danger is still real.

Food is not a bargaining chip. No president should be allowed to threaten families’ groceries to win culture-war fights. Congress must act now to protect SNAP and stop Trump from using hunger as a weapon.

Tell Congress: Protect SNAP, block Trump’s political conditions, and keep food assistance focused on one thing — making sure people can eat.

SNAP helps tens of millions of people survive. It keeps kids fed. It helps seniors stretch fixed incomes. It helps working families get through the month when wages fall short and grocery prices stay high.

Trump’s scheme is cruel and dangerous. If he gets away with attaching political strings to food aid, it opens the door for every future administration to hold basic needs hostage. Families should never have to wonder whether a political fight in Washington will leave their fridge empty.

That means Congress cannot hide behind the courts and hope this goes away. Lawmakers need to step in now, cut off any funding used to enforce these political conditions, investigate how this happened, and make it unmistakable: SNAP exists to feed people, not to help Trump bully states.

Add your name now and demand Congress act before Trump gets another chance to threaten families’ food.

The petition to Congress reads:

“Permanently protect SNAP from political interference. Block the Trump administration from imposing unrelated political conditions on food assistance, defend families’ access to groceries, and ensure no president can use hunger as a weapon.”
