Donald Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently announced that it is proposing a rule that would tie the hands of states and tribal nations and make it easier for fossil fuel companies to push through new pipelines and massive oil-and-gas infrastructure—even when those projects threaten local waterways and public health. The change would weaken how states and tribes can use the Clean Water Act to stop harmful projects, effectively fast-tracking fossil fuel expansion at the exact moment we need to be slashing emissions. If it is not stopped, this rule could become a green light for more pollution, more climate disasters, and more communities forced to accept pipeline risks they never agreed to. This is a giveaway to Big Oil and Gas — and a direct attack on climate action. States and tribal nations have long used the Clean Water Act to protect their communities from projects that threaten rivers, wetlands, drinking water, and public health. But under this proposal, the EPA would narrow that authority and make it harder for states and tribes to say NO — even when a pipeline would pollute waterways, damage ecosystems, and worsen the climate crisis. Let’s be clear: more pipelines = more fossil fuels burned. And more fossil fuels burned = more climate chaos. Pipelines don’t just move oil and gas — they lock in decades of emissions. They fuel oil and methane leaks, fires, and explosions, and long-term dependence on energy that is overheating our planet. Communities are already living through climate disasters: extreme heat, historic flooding, megafires, and stronger storms. We should be shutting down the fossil fuel pipeline — not rubber-stamping new ones. This EPA proposal silences local communities, undercuts tribal sovereignty, and makes it easier for polluters to override the people who actually live with the consequences. We are telling EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin: the EPA’s job is to protect people and the planet — not to clear the path for more fossil fuel infrastructure. We demand that the EPA withdraw this rule immediately and defend the right of states and tribes to protect their water, health, and climate future. No more pipelines. No more climate pollution. No more power grabs. Please sign the petition to tell EPA Administrator Zeldin to abandon this proposal. The petition reads: Please immediately withdraw the proposed rule that would limit the power of states and Tribal nations to review and block federally permitted projects if they deem that these projects threaten local communities and the environment. This rule would silence the very people who have to live with these projects and will further lock the U.S. into fossil fuel dependence. I urge the EPA to withdraw this rule. _______ Source: https://www.nrdc.org/press-releases/epa-proposal-would-curb-states-and-tribes-clean-water-act-oversight
